Ontario Provincial Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake Anti-Venom Depot

Venomous snakes in Ontario?

Thats right. But the threatened Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake is hardly threatening. Quite the opposite. What the Massasauga wants to do most is hide. If you see one, consider yourself privileged. There aren't many left.

To protect itself, Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnakes rely mainly on camouflage and staying very still. After that they may rattle their tails to let you know they are around. If that doesn't work, they will strike as a last resort to protect themselves.

If venom is injected when a rattlesnake bites, it can make a person or pet very sick. Prompt medical attention can keep the reaction from getting worse. In fact, only two deaths have ever been linked to rattlesnake bites in Ontario, and neither of those people got appropriate medical attention.
