PARRY SOUND, April 15th, 2025 – If you’ve been thinking about relocating, or returning to Canada to practice medicine, there has never been a better time to make that move. Whether you’re drawn by the promise of small-town living, a deep connection to nature, or the opportunity to work in a collaborative and forward-thinking medical environment, West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC) is ready to welcome you.

Located on the shores of Georgian Bay in Ontario, WPSHC offers physicians the opportunity to work in a highly integrated health care facility serving both a close-knit year-round population and a thriving seasonal community that greatly expands in size during peak summer months. This unique balance makes for a dynamic and interesting practice environment, offering the chance to explore your full scope of training and interests.

The main entrance welcomes visitors and is surrounded by columns holding up the natural wooden roof.

Working here means having the ability to make a big impact on the community, both through clinical care and through meaningful connections with patients and families.  You’ll find opportunities for leadership, research, and academic involvement, supported by a progressive and growing health care team. We are proud to have a burgeoning young and energetic medical staff, many of whom share a passion for outdoor adventure and active living.

West Parry Sound is also an ideal location for raising a family. The area offers excellent public and private school options, and a brand-new Wellness Centre is currently under construction, adding to the town’s health and recreation resources.

The region itself is nothing short of spectacular. WPSHC is at the heart of the Georgian Bay Mnidoo Gamii Biosphere, a UNESCO-designated area of global ecological significance. The surrounding landscape includes Georgian Bay’s rugged coastline, hundreds of inland lakes, rivers, and endless opportunities for boating, paddling, hiking, snowmobiling, skiing, and more. It’s the kind of place where you can finish a shift and be on the water or the trail within minutes.

Despite the rural setting, West Parry Sound is centrally located to several urban centres, making it easy to access larger cities for weekend trips, conferences, or continued education, all while enjoying the benefits of small-town life.
WPSHC is well equipped with 70 acute care beds and an attached 110-resident long-term care facility. We provide inpatient and outpatient acute care services, including emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, maternal/childcare, diagnostics, and rehabilitation. Physicians have 24/7 access to laboratory and diagnostic imaging including CT and X-ray, as well as echocardiography and stress testing. Our ICU is a six-bed, level two closed unit offering centralized monitoring and ventilator capacity. It supports complex respiratory, cardiac, and gastrointestinal cases and also functions as a step-down unit for post-operative care. We also operate Ontario’s Massasauga Rattlesnake Anti-Venom Depot and benefit from strong tertiary care support through Health Sciences North in Sudbury.

Physicians who join us are eligible for support through the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative and the Northern Physician Retention Initiative, two government programs that provide financial incentives to help ease your transition into rural practice.

Whether you’re a seasoned physician looking for a lifestyle shift, or a newer graduate eager to make a difference in a community where your work truly matters, WPSHC is here to help you thrive. We’d be happy to welcome you for a tour, show you the area, and introduce you to our team. Now is a great time to make your move, and there’s no better place to land than West Parry Sound.
