Proactive Disclosure

West Parry Sound Health Centre is committed to being open and transparent with its stakeholders and the communities we are privileged to serve. In this section of our web site visitors can access a wide range of information. While some of this information is being made public in accordance with legislative requirements, we have placed the material together with other documents that are being made public as a result of our interest in openness and accountability.
We agree with Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) as it encourages all hospitals to expand their adoption of automatic information disclosure. As the IPC states, proactive disclosure “embraces the concept of a more responsive and efficient government [health care system] that engages in collaborative relationships with those it serves.”
This area of our web site will continue to change. We will adopt proactive disclosure processes that have mutual benefit for the community and for our delivery of patient and family centred care.

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)

West Parry Sound Health Centre is committed to being open and transparent with its stakeholders and the community we are privileged to serve.
In 2010, the provincial government passed the Broader Public Sector Accountability Act which requires hospitals to be fully compliant with the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), effective January 1, 2012. West Parry Sound Health Centre supports this requirement. It is one more way that we are promoting public confidence in our management of taxpayer money, and it is consistent with our fundamental values of compassion, accountability, rights and responsibilities, and excellence.
FIPPA provides a general right of access to records in the hospital’s custody or control as of January 1, 2007.  There are legislative exclusions and exemptions from the right of access.

Please note that access to personal health information, such as in a patient’s medical chart, is not available under FIPPA.  The Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) applies to a patient’s medical information and the hospital protects medical information in accordance with PHIPA.  If you wish to make a request for your own patient record, please contact our Health Records office.

Broader Public Sector Accountability Act (BPSAA) Directives

West Parry Sound Health Centre is committed to being open and transparent with its stakeholders and the community we are privileged to serve.

In 2010, the provincial government passed the Broader Public Sector Accountability Act which requires hospitals to publicly post any expense claims made by hospital executives and board members, effective November 30, 2011.

West Parry Sound Health Centre supports this requirement. It is one more way that we are promoting public confidence in our management of taxpayer money, and it is consistent with our fundamental values of compassion, accountability, rights and responsibilities, and excellence.

Our staff and board members are required to travel for off-site meetings with hospital and community partners, government officials, and to participate in working groups, educational sessions, and activities related to our delivery of patient and family centred care. All expenses incurred are in accordance with the hospital’s Travel Reimbursement and Expenses Policy.

Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act

West Parry Sound Health Centre operates in compliance with the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to disclose annually the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in a calendar year.
This public disclosure can be found at Ontario’s Ministry of Finance web site.

Directory of Records

The directory contains a list of the general types of records in the custody or under the control of the hospital.  The directory is intended to assist members of the public in exercising their rights of access under FIPPA.  The directory does not contain the actual records and it is necessary to make an access request to the hospital’s FIPPA Office. Please contact the FIPPA Office if you have an inquiry related to our Directory of Records or if you would like assistance in making your request for information as clear and concise as possible.

Chief Executive Officer Contract

West Parry Sound Health Centre is accountable to the communities we are privileged to serve.  One of the many transparency measures that we support is the public disclosure of our Chief Executive Officer’s employment contract. The contract will be available here on January 3, 2012.
