Emergency Department

Practice medicine in a modern health care facility while living in a community full of recreational opportunities. West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC) is looking for locum and permanent physicians to join our Emergency Department Team. WPSHC provides a wide range of hospital and community services to the area’s 24,000 permanent and 100,000+ seasonal residents.
WPSHC is a 70-bed facility, including a 6-bed closed intensive care unit. The Emergency Department is serviced 24/7 and receives approximately 19,000 patient visits per year, treating a broad spectrum of clinical presentations. Our ED physicians enjoy a very collegial work environment and have excellent support from General Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, GP Anaesthesia, and Hospitalists. The department is supported by a dedicated team of Family Physicians and there is a back-up call system. In addition, we have good subspecialist/tertiary support from surrounding areas, including Health Sciences North.
Remuneration is in the form of the Alternate Payment Plan including a competitive hourly rate.
In addition to a broad range of clinical opportunities there are ample teaching experiences available through affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Parry Sound has a Rurality Index of Ontario (RIO) score of 65 and new physicians are eligible for provincial incentives. Recreational activities in the community abound. Extensive trails are in place for snowmobiling, cross country skiing, cycling, and hiking. Some of the best boating in the world takes place on Georgian Bay amid the world’s largest freshwater archipelago.

Hospitalist

Practice medicine in a modern health care facility while living in a community full of recreational opportunities. West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC) is looking for permanent and locum physicians to join our Hospitalist program. WPSHC provides a wide range of hospital and community services to the area’s 24,000 permanent and 100,000+ seasonal residents.
WPSHC is a 70-bed facility, including a 6-bed closed intensive care unit. Hospitalists act as most responsible physician (MRP) for patients admitted to hospital, excluding ICU and obstetrical patients. Each Hospitalist is responsible for a mix of acute, rehabilitation, palliative, and alternate level of care (ALC) patients. We see a broad spectrum of clinical presentations, and enjoy a very collegial work environment. Hospitalists have excellent support from General Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, GP Anaesthesia, and Emergency Medicine colleagues. Good subspecialist/tertiary support is available from surrounding areas, including Health Sciences North.

General Internal Medicine

West Parry Sound Health Centre, Parry Sound, Ontario
This position is eligible for HFO grants

 

West Parry Sound Health Centre, a regional hospital facility, is seeking a full time General Internist. Locum opportunities are also available. The Intensive Care Unit at West Parry Sound Health Centre is a six-bed, level two ICU that includes centralized monitoring and ventilator capacity. The unit provides support to patients with complex respiratory, cardiac, and GI conditions. It also serves as a surgical step down unit.

 

The Department of Internal Medicine is expanding its program to a fourth internist. Internists will share a one-in-four call, being responsible for medical management of patients admitted to the ICU, and responding to consults from the Medical / Surgical Units and the Emergency Department.

 

Diagnostics on site include 24/7 access to laboratory and diagnostic imaging (CT, x-ray) as well as echocardiography, and stress tests.

 

Qualifications:

• Medical Degree and current license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

• Demonstrated ability in working successfully with an inter-professional health care team.

 

West Parry Sound Health Centre provides a wide range of hospital and community services to the area’s 21,000 permanent residents and 150,000 summer residents. Our Health Centre includes a 70-bed acute care facility with an attached 110-bed long term care facility. In addition to the ICU, the centre has active surgical and obstetrical programs. Medical specialities include general and orthopedic surgery and internal medicine, augmented by visiting consultation services that include geriatric medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, ophthalmology, and urology.
