The weather was spectacular! Over 200 participants and 40 volunteers combined with sponsors and pledgers to create a terrific walk, run, pole and buy a new $80,000 telemetry system for cardiac rehab, replacing the 14-year-old equipment that has been failing for some time now.
In 2014 the 7th annual event, raised over $62,000. Combined with money saved from last year’s event ($27,000) the deal is sealed on buying local cardiac patients a new elemetry system for their rehab.
Because of tremendous corporate support all pledges and registration revenues from the 7th Annual Georgian Bay Walk, Run, Pole buys equipment. Route sponsors Kawartha Credit Union, CN and Lafarge together accounted for $15,000! Our elite sponsor and supplier of the new $1,050,000 pharmacy system McKesson provided $7,500! Astra Zeneca, Scotiabank, Morgan Construction, Harry’s No Frills, Richard’s Coffee, White Squall, Georgian Rentals, Comfort Inn, Wahta Springs and Sysco were the icing on the cake with further donations or help in-kind.
CEO among guest speakers at University of Ottawa celebration
On May 3, 2014, the Telfer School of Management and the Telfer MHA Alumni Association held a gala at the Château Laurier to highlight the 50th anniversary of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program.
The Gala was host to some of the elite in health care management and policy in Canada. More than 300 alumni, professors, preceptors, professionals, and members of the community were present, representing 39 of the 50 years of the program.
“I have been extremely privileged to be part of this health care system and like many graduates, it all started for me with this MHA program,” said Cameron Love, MHA 1997. “I will always remember my times as a student and resident. During the first 50 years, the program has seen many great moments and has resulted in many great leaders in our health care system and I am sure it will continue to strengthen and evolve to be a key health leader training program over the next 50.”

Congratulations for patient recognition and ‘high performer’ status
This note from the North East Local Health Integration Network was recently received by CEO Donald Sanderson. A story about the National Research Corporation Canada (NRCC) report appeared in last week’s News Centre.
I was reviewing the 2012-2013 NRCC Patient Ratings Report and I see that WPSHC has reached the “high performer” status as a community hospital.
This is no small feat and one to be recognized. It must be extremely rewarding to know that patients have responded positively to this survey.
No doubt the community is most pleased with the overall care and compassion of which services are delivered at WPSHC.
