West Parry Sound Health Centre is successfully participating in the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) Risk Assessment Checklist program. This is a web-based, self-assessment program that aims to increase the impact on patient safety. The program consists of checklists, or risk modules, for each of the high-cost/high-frequency risks identified from HIROC’s extensive claims database. Each risk module is comprised of the most impactful, evidence-based mitigation strategies organizations should implement to effectively address the respective risk.

Co-existing safely with rattlesnakes while enjoying our summer
Snake encounters increase during July and August, as more people visit our area. The warmer temperatures also make it more suitable for snakes to be out and about. The key to co-existence with these snakes is learning a few simple precautions that will virtually eliminate the chances of being bitten.

News Centre -successful year for our delivery of Patient and Family Centred Care
"Another year is now behind us and on behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to spend a few moments reflecting on the past year. Once again, our leadership team has delivered a ‘balanced budget.’ This is a commendable feat, given that our provincial contribution has declined, many wages have gone up, and we have not pulled back on any of our programs and services..."

Auxiliary members honoured for exceptional service and dedication
Six members of the WPSHC Auxiliary were recognized for long and special service to health care during the organization’s Annual General Meeting last week. Honorary Life Membership Certificates were present to Orla Thurston, Ida Clairmont, Gretl Feller, Shirley Gilbert, Irene Bosley, and Jean Piitz. The new Life Members were congratulated by Hospital Auxiliary Association of Ontario President Elen MacMillan, new WPSHC Auxiliary President Carla Cusiter, and Past-president Olive Duggan.
