Incentive Programs

As the southernmost community in Northern Ontario, West Parry Sound Health Centre participates in various government programs designed to support and enhance your career. 

West Parry Sound Health Centre is an approved participant in the Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN). The CCPN provides a $25,000 incentive grant to eligible nurses in exchange for a 24-month commitment to an eligible employer.

Additionally, WPSHC is an approved participant to offer the Northern Top-Up Grant of $25,000 and a Northern Relocation Grant of $10,000 for eligible nurses. These incentives are in addition to the $25,000 CCPN incentive.

To be eligible to participate, a new employee must:

  • Not have been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six months prior to being hired;
  • Hold a Certificate of Registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Commit to two-years of employment at a full-time work schedule offered by the employer; and
  • Not simultaneously receive funds from the Ministry of Health for the Tuition Support Program for Nurses.

This incentive grant program offers grants of up to $5,000 per eligible year, to a maximum of $15,000, paid over a three-year period to:

  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Speech-Language Pathologists

who establish their practice in Northern Ontario and accept full-time employment.

To be eligible for the incentive grant, the applicant must be registered with the applicable College and have accepted a full-time offer of employment in a Ministry Of Health fully funded position in an eligible community in Northern Ontario.

The Ontario Learn and Stay Grant provides funding for students studying in priority programs in priority communities in Ontario. This program requires students to learn and work in the region where they study. The West Parry Sound Health Centre is included in the region of North Bay-Parry Sound.

Funding includes free tuition, compulsory fees, books, and other direct educational costs.

Eligible Programs of Study:

  • Practical Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Masters in Nursing
  • Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Paramedic

To be eligible for the grant, students must successfully apply to and enrol in the first year of an eligible program and commit to work in the region in which they studied when they graduate. 

West Parry Sound Health Centre is an eligible employer in the TSPN program. This program provides tuition reimbursement to recent grads who choose a return-of-service agreement with WPSHC. The Tuition Support Program for Nurses is part of the government’s commitment to provide more families with access to primary health care, and to support the recruitment and retention of nurses to rural and remote areas across the province.

The program is open to nurse practitioner, registered nurse and registered practical nurse graduates who apply within one year of having graduated from a Canadian University or College.

West Parry Sound Health Centre is a participant in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee program. The NGG program provides new graduate nurses in Ontario, including those who studied out-of-province and abroad, with temporary full-time employment, above staffing complement, to support their successful transition into practice. Eligible employers receive a total of 20 weeks of funding per new nurse participating in the NGG program. This includes 12 weeks for the new nurse’s transition into practice and 8 weeks for the reinvestment fund to support existing frontline nurses and their professional development.

West Parry Sound Health Centre is an approved participant in the EEP program. Externs are clinical learners who are employed as unregulated care providers to work under the supervision of regulated care providers. Eligible positions include Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Paramedicine.
