West Parry Sound Health Centre offers physicians the opportunity to work in a highly integrated health care facility situated in northern Ontario along the shores of Georgian Bay. WPSHC serves a unique population of permanent residents that more than quadruples with the addition of our seasonal residents. This allows for an interesting balance that provides opportunities to explore your full scope of practice, while experiencing small-town living. The West Parry Sound area also benefits from being an eligible community for the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative and the Northern Physician Retention Initiative through the provincial government.

We are situated at the heart of the world’s largest freshwater archipelago and within one of Ontario’s most popular recreational locations. Located in the centre of the Georgian Bay Mnidoo Gamii Biosphere, a region of global ecological significance as designated by UNESCO, the region offers stunning year-round opportunities for outdoor exploration and enjoyment. From calm inland lakes to rugged windswept islands the landscape lends itself to outdoor pursuits such as paddling, boating, hiking, cycling, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and more.

With 70 acute care beds and an attached 110- resident long term care facility, WPSHC offers inpatient and outpatient acute care services, including emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, maternal/child care, diagnostic and rehabilitation services. Diagnostics on-site includes 24/7 access to laboratory and diagnostic imaging (CT, XRAY) as well as echocardiography, and stress tests. We also operate Ontario’s Massasauga Rattlesnake Anti Venom Depot. Our Intensive Care Unit is a six-bed, level two closed ICU that includes centralized monitoring and ventilator capacity. The unit provides support to patients with complex respiratory, cardiac and GI conditions. It also serves as a surgical step-down unit. There is strong subspecialist/tertiary support from Health Sciences North, our regional tertiary care referral centre located in Sudbury.
WPSHC is always pleased to welcome physicians to our premises for a tour. Further information about visiting the area or current vacancies can be requested through the office of the CEO or Chief of Medical staff.
