The Pointe au Baril and Area Nursing Station was initiated in the 1980’s by the Pointe au Baril Lions Club due to the lack of services in the area. They worked tirelessly to get funding, raise funds and work with all their community partners to establish the service, as well as, acquire the property, build the building and partner with the provincial government, (Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Under-Serviced Area Program) to provide the nursing services to this small community
With the support of the Township of Archipelago, the former Parry Sound District Hospital (now WPSHC), the local community and Islanders Associations and Medical Associates, we opened our doors in August of 1985.
We have since grown out of the space, and the Lions Club, once again took on the project, to put an addition on the nursing station to better accommodate the addition of the paramedics.
Now 30+ year in, our dream of a new nursing station has finally come to fruition and we should be moving in the fall this year. This will be more accessible, safe and better serve all of our patients and their families. There will also provide a garage for ambu-lance while the paramedics are here. This has been quite a project over the recent years and once again, thank you to our community (both summer and year round), and partners.
